65 Years of Conservation in Queensland - Do we need More Science and Fewer Laws?

Dr Hugh Lavery, helped establish the Queensland National Parks & Wildlife Service and the Environmental Protection Agency.  He then worked as Principal Environmental Advisor to Australia‚Äôs largest private landholder.  He is a former Chairman of Australian Environment International and adjunct Professor, Institute for Future Environments at QUT.  Hugh has a MSc, MEc and PhD as well as an AM

Hugh will discuss What we need Now to Conserve Nature.  His insights have evolved from decades of scientific research and first-hand knowledge of advancing sustainable Land management based on a collaborative ecological design.  He will present case practical studies drawn from first-hand experience and discuss shortcomings of legislation.

General meetings are usually held at The Hut, 47 Fleming Road, Chapel Hill, on the fourth Wednesday of each month from February to November.

The Annual General Meeting is usually in April, at the start of the April general meeting, with the April talk immediately afterwards.

  • Please join us for refreshments and networking from 7:00 pm.
  • Meetings commence at 7:30 pm. Presentations usually run for about an hour including questions, with refreshments and informal discussions afterwards.
  • All members and non-member visitors are welcome.
  • We try to include an outline of each THECA Talk in the subsequent THECA News. Please let us know if you'd be happy to do an occasional write-up for us.
