Harry Hines is a zoologist with extensive experience with nature conservation in eastern Australia.

He is currently a Senior Conservation Officer with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and an Honorary Research Fellow at the Queensland Museum. He worked extensively on the declining frog problem and was a member of the team that discovered the amphibian chytrid fungus (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis), now recognised as the cause of many frog declines and extinctions in Australia and globally.

Harry is currently involved in the conservation management of various threatened frog species in southern Queensland with a particular focus on the critically endangered Kroombit tinker frog.

The evening's talk will give an overview of the frogs of Eungella, Kroombit Tops, and the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia and Great Sandy World Heritage Areas. It will provide an update on the impacts of chytrid fungus, bushfires and other threats, the use of autonomous recorders and automated call recognition for monitoring, and surveying frogs in remote and stunning locations.

Please join us (and bring a friend) for our first guest speaker of 2023!
