Melanie will give an illustrative talk on terrestrial vertebrate fauna surveys in Queensland; from the historical perspective of the early zoological collectors and the significant contribution of First Nations people; to the Government Shire Surveys of the 1970s and 80s, and what is happening now. Methods to detect mammals, birds, reptiles and frogs will be outlined; with the increasing role of newer techniques such as camera trapping and acoustic monitoring in the last decade. Other emerging techniques are described, including those targeted for detecting or monitoring rare or cryptic species.
